NEEDY

We get needs, wants and desires all mixed up sometimes.

I often go into a grocery store thinking of what I actually need…..coffee, milk, eggs let’s say. But then I walk by a shelf with something yummy on it and I think oh I need that, it looks so good. Then I get up to the register and realize oh, I only have a 20 dollar bill on me and before you know it, I am putting back that very thing I so thought I needed, but it really was a want.

And what about those desires? They often turn into wants. I have always loved the scripture in Psalms that says this: “Take delight in the LORD, and HE will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37: 4

PSALM 145: 19 “HE FULFILLS THE DESIRE OF THOSE WHO FEAR HIM; HE ALSO HEARS THEIR CRY AND SAVES THEM.”

Our greatest desire is something we so desperately need: JESUS CHRIST!! We all desire to be loved and valued too and JESUS gives us exactly that: you and I are loved every day because we are HIS children, we are valued greatly. JESUS went and died for us on the Cross because HE valued us and HE desires that we follow HIM with all heart, soul and mind. As we walk this life, HE wants us to walk closely with HIM.

I find the longer I walk the road with JESUS, the simpler my life gets. It’s not more complicated and busy, it’s less of these things I think because my desire is for one person, HIM. And because I desire and want and need HIM, other things pale in comparison. I certainly don’t need every little thing I lay my eyes on! The world and social media will tell you what you need and how all of it will make you happy. But JESUS won’t do that…..HE tells you that you need one and one only………HIM. And it is HIM that gives your heart peace and strength and wisdom.

PSALM 73: 25 “WHOM HAVE I IN HEAVEN BUT YOU? AND EARTH HAS NOTHING I DESIRE BESIDES YOU.”

Somehow we think that fun and food and all kinds of pleasures of this world will satisfy the hunger of our hearts. But it won’t!

Our heart’s desires, our wants and all of our needs are met by the ONE who died on the Cross for us. JESUS satisfies all. And all means all. So whatever you are desiring today, whatever your need or your want, take it to HIM. Because HE promises to be there, to listen and to give you grace and peace.

MATTHEW 5: 17 “I DID NOT COME TO ABOLISH BUT TO FULFILL.”

  1. It’s so easy to confuse our wants with our needs, especially in a world that constantly tells us we need more. Yet the closer we walk with Christ, the more we discover that He truly is enough. This reminds me of Paul’s words in Philippians 4:11–13, where he said he had learned to be content in every circumstance because his strength was found in Christ. Contentment is not found in having more, but in knowing the One who is more than enough.

  2. I so agree that, the longer and more closely I walk with Jesus, the simpler life gets.

I’ve thought that Ps 37.4 means, not that God will give me what my heart desires; rather He will give me the desires – He will implant the desires into my heart as I delight in Him.
