SUNDAY REFLECTIONS

ON THE OTHER SIDE OF PAIN

I can’t help but notice how since I’ve gotten older, physical pain is always with me.  You know the kind – you wake up each morning wondering what will ache or hurt today.

ANY KIND OF PAIN GETS OUT ATTENTION

We will do any kind of method to make the pain stop and what a relief when it does.  A weight is lifted and we feel more like ourselves.

But it is the pain in a heart that can overwhelm us, defeat us, cause depression and upend our lives.  Physical pain is one thing, but crushing pain of the heart is another.  If you listen long enough to any human, you can hear the pain they carry and none of us are immune.

JEREMIAH 15: 18   “WHY THEN DOES MY SUFFERING CONTINUE?”  NLT

How about this version…….

JEREMIAH 15: 18   “WHY IS MY PAIN UNCEASING, MY WOUND INCURABLE, REFUSING TO BE HEALED?”  ESV

And don’t we ask why?   Why LORD?  Why so long LORD?  GOD is more than we know and HE sees very clearly our anguish and pain even when we don’t understand it or why we are experiencing it.  Sometimes this internal pain goes on for months and even years.

Pain in the heart can almost break you……..unless you turn to the ONE who can remake you.

PSALM 119: 50  “THIS IS MY COMFORT IN AFFLICTION, THAT YOUR PROMISE GIVES ME LIFE.” ESV

And this one…….

PSALM 119: 50  “THIS IS MY COMFORT IN MY MISERY, THAT YOUR WORD HAS REVIVED ME.”  NASB

Our pain can seem to last way too long, but GOD’S word can comfort us even longer.  HIS word comforts because a bruised reed HE will not break. You see, our FATHER will never break us.  HIS intention is always to draw us near, remake us in the process and then on the other side of all the pain to see and give glory only to HIM!  Our pain is not all about us.  We may think it is at the time, but our wonderful GOD has a much bigger plan.

YOU CAN COME OUT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF YOUR PAIN

GOD’S will is just that……..HIS.  Our surrender is what HE asks of us.  A humble posture of not our will, but “YOUR will LORD”.   Oh the pain of coming to this realization!  But sooner or later we all do because we are HIS children and loved by HIM.  And the surrender is sweet because we fall into HIS capable arms and feel HIS touch, a touch that remakes us and matures us.  Let’s thank HIM today for this, for getting our attention and for helping us see that there is true purpose in our pain.  Only a loving GOD would remake our hard hearts in this way.  And only a loving GOD would guide us and stay faithful to us all through all of our afflictions.  Be blessed today dear one and go to the LORD with all your pain!

2 CORINTHIANS 1: 4   “WHO COMFORTS US IN ALL OUR AFFLICTION, SO THAT WE MAY BE ABLE TO COMFORT THOSE WHO ARE IN ANY AFFLICTION.”

  1. Sometimes I think that’s one of the hardest truths to bear – that our suffering may not be for our benefit. We may be suffering for another. I’d like to think I’m going to get something out of my suffering, to learn something. But others are watching and learning from what Christ is doing in me.

Philippians 2.3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves.

To be able to accept that is to become more like Christ, and can bring immeasurable peace.

  2. I hear you, and I feel the same every day. It’s tough, and it’s a constant struggle for me and my family too. We wake up each day wondering how much the pain will take from us, physically and emotionally. But in these times, I try to hold on to His promise, knowing that He is always with us, even when it feels unbearable.

May we find comfort in His word, and may He continue to help us heal, one day at a time.

God Bless You, today and always.
