Sometimes showing up is all GOD needs to work through us. We may feel inadequate, but GOD fills us with all the grace we need.
I lead a serving team almost every Saturday at our Church. I am so very blessed and grateful to be part of this loving team. I have an app on my phone that allows me to see who is signed up and who isn’t. At the beginning of each week the list can be quite small, but by Friday, the list grows with names showing up at the last minute. And I smile.
SHOW UP AND EXTEND GOD’S GRACE
I enjoy watching the list of these servants grow because I know they show up even when they weren’t assigned that week. Our general rule is to serve every other week. Sometimes someone will show up knowing we are short people and usually they serve on Sundays too.
BE HIS HANDS AND FEET WHENEVER POSSIBLE
1 PETER 4: 10 “AS EACH HAS RECEIVED A GIFT, USE IT TO SERVE ONE ANOTHER, AS GOOD STEWARDS OF GOD’S VARIED GRACE.”
GOD’S grace extends to each of us and then in turn each of us should extend grace to one another. Since each of us have been given good gifts from the Father’s varied grace, shouldn’t our joy in all of this be to………show up?
LUKE 6: 38 “FOR WITH THE MEASURE YOU USE, IT WILL BE MEASURED TO YOU.”
Show up and show you care. Just by your presence, you are showing the heart of GOD and yours for that matter. HIS grace works through your heart, your hands and your feet. And here is the main point: when you show up, GOD will use you that day. I know when I see our servant greeters pop on at the last minute that GOD needed them for that one person walking through our Church doors who needed to be seen and loved. GOD provided for that person who was looking for comfort or relief or even connection. Because don’t we all want to be known and loved?
And in the end, showing up helps us too! Because showing up requires a surrendered and humbled heart. We go because we know GOD will use us. We go even when we feel insufficient. Showing up proves that it’s not about us! It’s about the great GOD we serve. It’s not our idea, no it’s GOD’S light that ignites that spark within us to say this:
ISAIAH 6: 8 “THEN I SAID, HERE I AM! SEND ME.”
Sometimes showing up can even be an adventure. Did you know? Yes, it requires you to step out of your comfort zone. When we show up in the unknown (but GOD knows) we can have the confidence that HE will use us to the best of our ability. And in doing this, GOD grows us and matures us.
So today, if you are unsure of anything…….just take that moment and show up. It could be at someone’s door, or walking past someone and engaging them in conversation or yes, even serving in a capacity you never have been in, at your local Church. GOD uses us in ways we might never imagine, but HE knows us better than ourselves and when we surrender our lives to HIM, we are HIS grace and light for all the world to see.
MATTHEW 5: 14 “YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. A CITY SET ON A HILL CANNOT BE HIDDEN.”
