We can choose how we honor each day. We can show up for JESUS or not. But when we do, what are those attitudes and even those thoughts running through our minds? Are they Christlike? Because sometimes we stand in the battlefield around us and sometimes there is just a battlefield running through our minds.
Another choice we have is how will we show up in the lives of those around us. How do we leave our mark in the circle of influence GOD has given us?
TODAY WHEN IT DEPENDS UPON YOU……BE A FINDER OF GOOD.
A sweet friend of mine and I were having this conversation on how cruel women tend to be to other women these days. There are those tear downs disguised as a joke or a dig and there are those cruel judgements, cutting opinions and having an attitude of superiority and disgust…….why do we do this to one another? What ever happened to: if you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say it?!
LUKE 6: 45 “A GOOD MAN BRINGS GOOD THINGS OUT OF THE GOOD STORED UP IN HIS HEART, AND AN EVIL MAN BRINGS EVIL THINGS OUT OF THE EVIL STORED UP IN HIS HEART. FOR THE MOUTH SPEAKS WHAT THE HEART IS FULL OF.”
Finding good in a difficult person can be a very hard thing and even finding good in a mess of a situation can be hard. But GOD always brings the good to the table and we should too.
BE A FINDER OF GOOD……..EVEN IN THE HARD!
My hardest and most difficult times in the past few years has been knowing that cancer visited our house not once, but twice! And now that we are down the road a bit from the diagnosis for my husband and myself, somehow I can find the good in this and the purpose in this process. At my lowest, I still had the FATHER with me, who is merciful and compassionate and all loving and kind. GOD drew near and gave me much comfort. HE is a good, good GOD. And because HE is good, we can find the good in anything.
COLOSSIANS 3: 12 “SINCE GOD CHOSE YOU TO BE THE HOLY PEOPLE HE LOVES, YOU MUST CLOTHE YOURSELVES WITH TENDERHEARTED MERCY, KINDNESS, HUMILITY, GENTLENESS AND PATIENCE.” NLT
We don’t need a one-up attitude……no, we need a show-up attitude and while we are at it, find the good as we show up for others.
Could it be that we don’t find the good in others because we don’t see the good in ourselves? Remind yourself of who GOD says you are! Could it be that we don’t show up finding the good because we feel like no one shows up for us? What about your GOD? HE is good and faithful and true and just……for you. HE shows up every single day.
2 CORINTHIANS 1: 3-4 “PRAISE BE TO THE GOD AND FATHER OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE FATHER OF COMPASSION AND THE GOD OF ALL COMFORT, WHO COMFORTS US IN ALL OUR TROUBLES, SO THAT WE CAN COMFORT THOSE IN ANY TROUBLE WITH THE COMFORT WE OURSELVES RECEIVE FROM GOD.”
And there is our good……so that you can show up with the good for those who need it! Let’s be faithful in showing up, with compassion and love for our fellow human beings and in the name of JESUS CHRIST!
PSALM 119: 68 “YOU ARE GOOD, AND WHAT YOU DO IS GOOD; TEACH ME YOUR DECREES.”
Your post goes pretty deep, Maxine (as it most often does 🙂) I think it all comes back to abiding in Christ. When we walk with God daily, when we have our “conversation” with Him, He becomes more deeply ingrained in us. And I like it. God is with me in my conversation, in my good times and bad, and, as He makes His presence known to me in varied ways, I can see and appreciate Him all the more.
I go today to visit with my sister – my mom died yesterday, and we have arrangements to make. I’m grateful I had my visit with her last week for her 94th birthday, and we had a good closing chat and hymns.
