We have been having some damaging storms here in AZ, the most recent one to remember is the one that ravaged the Grand Canyon. Storms leave some incredible destruction don’t they? And when storms come into our lives there are remnants left upon us too. We tend to not be the same people we were before a storm. It can be health, job, relationship and even a crisis of faith.
PSALM 107:29 “HE CALMED THE STORM TO A WHISPER AND STILLED THE WAVES.” NLT
Life will send upon us storms, it’s something what they can do to us. We can be sent into a depression unable to get out of bed or we just function from day to day on shaky ground only to find that sooner or later we cannot live that way. Storms can either take us out like a weak tree, or we can weather them leaning on the only solid tree of life there is: JESUS!
Fear can strike you like a storm too……fear of the future and where life is taking you. Sometimes it’s as simple as how do I pay the next bill that is coming.
ISAIAH 25: 4 “YOU HAVE BEEN A REFUGE FOR THE POOR, A REFUGE FOR THE NEEDY IN THEIR DISTRESS, A SHELTER FROM THE STORM AND A SHADE FROM THE HEAT.”
When we survive these storms of life, there are remnants left upon us that we carry with us, sometimes for the rest of our lives. Some are psychological damage, some are bitterness, some are grudges. And some are just a hurt that runs so deep there are no words.
I feel like I am slowly walking out of a storm of grief and shock. I am amazed that I am still standing and able to worship and draw near to the ONE who has calmed this storm within me with HIS whisper. The remnant that is left upon me now is one of strength and wisdom. This storm really knocked me down, threw me in a pit of despair and then and now JESUS took me by the hand and said “I am stripping all idols away from you, remaking you, rebuilding you and showing you that I am YOUR ROCK in the storm.” And it’s funny……instead of fighting it, I have surrendered to it and have such peace. Peace that HE is more capable of healing me than I am. I read this recently and I love it:
YOU ARE NOT STRONG BECAUSE THIS DOESN’T HURT. YOU ARE STANDING BECAUSE HE HAS HELD YOU.
ISAIAH 25: 8 “HE WILL SWALLOW UP DEATH FOR ALL TIME, AND THE LORD GOD WILL WIPE TEARS AWAY FROM ALL FACES, AND HE WILL REMOVE THE DISGRACE OF HIS PEOPLE FROM ALL THE EARTH; FOR THE LORD HAS SPOKEN.” NASB
Yes, that is our GOD who will wipe away all our tears, if not now, in the future and in the meantime? Let the storms come……because HE will calm them with a whisper! Hang onto HIM today in whatever storm you are in. HE will not fail you and you will be able to stand because HE has held you.
ISAIAH 26: 4 “TRUST IN THE LORD FOREVER, FOR THE LORD GOD IS AN EVERLASTING ROCK.”
