Recently I read in Max Lucado’s devotional: “Grace for the Moment” that we can be safe in believing that Heaven is our estate and the earth is it’s porch. I love that analogy and never thought of the big picture that way. Heaven is our final destination and in the meantime, we are gathered together here on GOD’S porch.
When we lived in Colorado I had one home that had a porch and it’s why we bought the house in the first place. On one side of the porch faced my front door diagonally and there was big stone surrounding it. I decided to put two white rocking chairs on the porch with a table in-between them. I have so many memories of sitting there. It was a place to watch the world go by, to talk with neighbors and friends. I spent many hours reading my Bible. Coffee and snacks found their way out every time. I loved it and it felt a little like Heaven to me. Whenever I sat there I never wanted to go back inside. Didn’t think of it then, but it was because I was on GOD’S porch. Sunday afternoons felt slow and sacred to me.
PSALM 90: 12 “TEACH US TO REALIZE THE BREVITY OF LIFE, SO THAT WE MAY GROW IN WISDOM.”
GOD’S porch of life is there for us to grow in wisdom, to slow down and be still and just know HE is GOD! We learn HIS ways before we reach Heaven’s door. On HIS porch we have the time to examine our hearts and learn GOD’S heart for each of us.
I would like to believe that all that has happened to me on this earth……all that has been added and all that has been taken away, is because where I am going, some of those qualities I learned from GOD will be taken with me and some will not.
EPHESIANS 5: 15 “BE VERY CAREFUL, THEN, HOW YOU LIVE – NOT AS UNWISE BUT AS WISE…….”
Taking the time to sit still on that porch of life calls you to be “very careful”. GOD is telling us in HIS word, to stop, look and listen for HIS VOICE too. The world wants us busy, every moment and so does the enemy, because when we are we don’t have the time to turn to GOD.
Don’t miss GOD’S porch…….there is peace and comfort there. You will find discernment, courage and endurance for you. Life happens on that porch, you need only to be still. Pray, be obedient, wait patiently, and look and listen. Your faith is growing there so today…….listen for GOD’S amazing voice for you and know that all porches lead to Heaven!
PSALM 37:7 “BE STILL IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD, AND WAIT PATIENTLY FOR HIM TO ACT.”

I love your analogy of learning on this porch. It reminds me of what my husband calls a “sit spot.” That’s where you go for alone time; I bring my Bible and meet with God.

Oh I love that too Kathy, the “sit spot” becomes the “sweet spot” and time spent with our Majestic GOD!

I love this picture of life as God’s porch. Sometimes we need to slow down, be still, and simply sit with Him.
Beautiful reminder that every step brings us closer to home. 🙏
