Like the strength and beauty of an old tree with deep roots, our spiritual roots need to run deep also.  I often hear the comment made at our Church that people were drawn to our messages because they ran deep.

DEEP ROOTS GROW OUR FAITH

In order for us to live an abundant, meaningful life, we need to go deep.  How we do that is with consistent reading and study of the Bible and drawing nearer to our GOD who gave us all of HIS wisdom to help us live in the here and now.

HEBREWS 6:  1   “THEREFORE LET US LEAVE THE ELEMENTARY DOCTRINE OF CHRIST AND GO ON TO MATURITY……..”

Like a kind and wise parent, OUR FATHER wants us to mature in HIM and learn from HIS promises which when applied, we willingly and carefully run the race before us.  And in so doing, we are learning and maturing in our faith.  Our spiritual roots become deep so that we will not fall away, no matter the circumstances.

Deep roots help us to love and persevere.  This perseverance is what some lack and can be evident in their falling away or backsliding.  Like the seed that falls on rocky ground, some people have no roots and their faith is shaken by hardship they experience.  

MARK 4:  17   “AND THEY HAVE NO ROOT IN THEMSELVES, BUT ENDURE FOR A WHILE; THEN, WHEN TRIBULATION OR PERSECUTION ARISES ON ACCOUNT OF THE WORD, IMMEDIATELY THEY FALL AWAY.”

These deep roots do not happen over night.  It takes years and long hours.  It takes precious time we have to be willing to sacrifice.  But remember this time will never be wasted, because we might not see it at the time, but those roots in CHRIST are slowly growing!

MARK 4:   8  “AND OTHER SEEDS FELL INTO GOOD SOIL AND PRODUCED GRAIN, GROWING UP AND INCREASING AND YIELDING THRITYFOLD AND SIXTYFOLD AND A HUNDREDFOLD.”

When our roots run deep we stand tall in the GOSPEL and the spiritual fruit is apparent.  Our roots go deep when we surrender our pride and our self-reliance to the GOD of deep wisdom. 

Are your roots running deep?  Or are you just scratching the surface with GOD learning and reading just enough to get by?  Keep your roots growing in CHRIST, every day and in every way.  Let JESUS take you by the hand and walk with HIM, learning and growing.  You will be blessed more than you can understand and like a beautiful, old tree you will be able to withstand the winds of change and tribulation.  

COLOSSIANS 2:  6-7  “THEREFORE, AS YOU RECEIVED CHRIST JESUS THE LORD, SO WALK IN HIM, ROOTED AND BUILT UP IN HIM AND ESTABLISHED IN THE FAITH, JUST AS YOU WERE TAUGHT, ABOUNDING IN THANKSGIVING.”
