To set our minds on GOD and all things above takes asking the LORD to help us and at the same time it requires an act of will.  Our mindset is either above or on the earth.  It’s the battlefield of all our thoughts and our flesh that makes this living so very hard sometimes.

COLOSSIANS 3: 2   “SET YOUR MIND ON THE THINGS ABOVE, NOT ON THE THINGS THAT ARE ON EARTH.”

Because we think every day, sometimes a mile a minute, we have to make an intentional choice to focus on things above.  Our minds are filled with to do lists and thoughts that the enemy places there………may we capture each thought for CHRIST.  We need to be intentional with this and it does not come naturally to us.  

2 CORINTHIANS 10:  5   “…….AND TAKE EVERY THOUGHT CAPTIVE TO OBEY CHRIST.”  ESV

The New Kings James Version says it like this:

2 CORINTHIANS 10:  5   “………BRINGING EVERY THOUGHT INTO CAPTIVITY TO THE OBEDIENCE OF CHRIST.”

And here is the battle……..take every thought?  This is so very hard and I know I fail at this every single day.  But JESUS didn’t!  We know that HE always had HIS mind on the FATHER above!  HE is our perfect example of this.

We live here in the world and there is a constant push and pull from it.  Taking every thought captive requires a steadfast act of will and much help from the FATHER.  We certainly cannot do this on our own and we need to continually ask the SPIRIT’S help.  Because out of men’s hearts come evil thoughts too…….

MATTHEW 15: 19   “FOR OUT OF THE HEART COME EVIL THOUGHTS…….”

This battlefield of the mind starts in our hearts……..are they set on CHRIST?  Is HE our first and only priority over all things?  Let’s ask ourselves these hard questions and then with GOD’S help set our minds on what it right and what is true.

All our thinking has roots.  All our thinking never stops!  And so here is that scripture I have always loved because it does tell us how to do all this thinking we do…….

PHILIPPIANS 4: 8   “FINALLY, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, WHATEVER IS TRUE, WHATEVER IS NOBLE, WHATEVER IS RIGHT, WHATEVER IS PURE, WHATEVER IS LOVELY, WHATEVER IS ADMIRABLE – IF ANYTHING IS EXCELLENT OR PRAISEWORTHY – THINK ABOUT SUCH THINGS.”

Let’s fix our thoughts and minds on these very things, the things from above.  We battle with our minds every day, but the SPIRIT knows this and will help us.  Trust HIM.  In the end, it will be the most rewarding endeavor you will ever take.  Let your mind rest on HIM today.

PSALM 94: 11   “THE LORD – KNOWS THE THOUGHTS OF MAN, THAT THEY ARE BUT A BREATH.”
