SUNDAY REFLECTIONS

BREAD OF YOUR MOMENTS AND WINE OF YOUR DAYS

Moments matter.  Over time they add up to a lifetime.  CHRIST is present in those moments when our minds remain vertical and our eyes stay upon HIM and all of HIS promises.  And we will have moments of HIS daily bread and days of wine and beauty.   We will have moments where we forget too……..LORD forgive us!

CHRIST broke bread with HIS disciples and said:  do this in remembrance of me. Remember what JESUS did for you and then break bread with those around you.  These people could be your family or a friend, but whomever it is, share with each other, the love of CHRIST and what GOD is doing currently in your life, in those moments.

LUKE 22: 19   “AND HE TOOK BREAD, GAVE THANKS AND BROKE IT, AND GAVE IT TO THEM SAYING, “THIS IS MY BODY GIVEN FOR YOU; DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.”

HE breaks and then HE gives.  Notice too that CHRIST gave thanks.   And we don’t give thanks enough in our moments, we tend to let them slip by and notice later how important those moments were.  So today, be present in your moments because CHRIST is present there too.

JESUS’ body broke………for us, for all of our sins.  And the act of communion remembers this.   In this moment we remember our sweet SAVIOR who died just for us because HE loves us so.

1 CORINTHIANS 11: 25 -26  “IN THE SAME WAY ALSO HE TOOK THE CUP, AFTER SUPPER, AND SAID, “THIS CUP IS THE NEW COVENANT IN MY BLOOD.  DO THIS, AS OFTEN AS YOU DRINK IT, IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.  FOR AS OFTEN AS YOU EAT THIS BREAD AND DRINK THE CUP, YOU PROCLAIM THE LORD’S DEATH UNTIL HE COMES.”

If we think about it, we are all broken in a thousand little ways and the broken bread is just an example of how human we are and how Holy CHRIST is!

TO BREAK THE BREAD IS TO REMEMBER CHRIST’S SACRIFICE ON THE CROSS.

CHRIST was present then and now and in all of our days of bread and wine moments.  And in our communion with HIM, we go deeper into our remembrance of HIM because we participate in a Holy time and are thankful for HIS sacrifice…….because we remember!

Let’s remember too that HIS blood sets us free…….

HEBREWS 9:  22   “INDEED, UNDER THE LAW ALMOST EVERYTHING IS PURIFIED WITH BLOOD, AND WITHOUT THE SHEDDING OF BLOOD THERE IS NO FORGIVENESS OF SINS.”

And in this remembering, in all of our moments, in all of our days of bread and the wine, it causes us to love and serve HIM better and all of HIS people too.  JESUS commanded us to remember so:

Remember HIM today, this Sunday, this LORD’S DAY.

Remember and be thankful, thankful for the moments given to you, just like HIS body and HIS love given now and for all of eternity.

PSALM 78: 35   “THEY REMEMBERED THAT GOD WAS THEIR ROCK, THE MOST HIGH GOD THEIR REDEEMER.”

  1. We shared communion this morning at church. I thought upon all these things. After church we chatted with a lovely lady on the topic of how grateful we are to have such a church family. It’s a small community and everyone knows and cares about everyone. That’s the love of Christ, and that’s what His blood did for us.

John 6.51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
