WE CAN’T GET HOLY IN A HURRY

Make time……have patience and perseverance.

I think because of our phones and social media that we all want things to be fixed or done overnight.  The phone has made us very impatient people.

One thing we cannot do ourselves or even try is to become Holy in a Hurry.  We live in GOD’S economy and in HIS timing.  He works together all things for our good and so becoming more like our SAVIOR takes time………lots of it.

I recently read that we can’t get Holy in a hurry.  What a statement!  How often do we reason with GOD on our end and say:  LORD, can you hurry this up a bit?  The more HE requires us to wait, the more we learn about patience, trusting HIM and moving forward in faith even when we cannot see.

And because GOD is in the big and the small, we take small steps every day of growth and spiritual maturity.  Most of the time we don’t notice, but GOD is silently there working always on our behalf.  I’m so thankful that HE isn’t leaving me the way HE found me……. aren’t you?

Walking in small steps does require the following from us:

MICAH 6: 8   “HE HAS SHOWN YOU, O MORTAL WHAT IS GOOD.  AND WHAT DOES THE LORD REQUIRE OF YOU?  TO ACT JUSTLY AND TO LOVE MERCY AND TO WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD.”

GOD shows us what is good, even if it is small.  It is our choice to follow HIM in all HIS goodness and blessings that HE provides us.   And even more important may we respond in this way with HIM:

1 CORINTHIANS 4: 2   “MOREOVER, IT IS REQUIRED OF STEWARDS THAT THEY BE FOUND FAITHFUL.”

We don’t become Holy overnight, but we can remain faithful in our daily walks with the LORD.  Are we faithful with our time, talents and gifts to the LORD?  Our GOD guides us every day and our faithfulness in the small is much because GOD is in it!

Our all-powerful and majestic GOD doesn’t need us, but boy, we certainly need HIM.  Without HIM we are lost in our sin, prideful and even hateful human beings.  With HIM, HIS invisible HAND reaches for us, our hearts and slowly, but surely molds us into Kingdom people, holy and righteous.

PHILLIPIANS 3: 9   “…….NOT HAVING MY OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM THE LAW, BUT THAT WHICH IS THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST, THE RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD ON THE BASIS OF FAITH.”

There is evidence of the LORD in both the big and the small, but our days flow in small moments and GOD is found there when we look.  Do we trust HIM with the small?  When we measure our days with the small, we then see ourselves moving forward ever so slightly and changing ever so slowly as we head toward our eternal home.  Only GOD matures us and sanctifies us.

It’s GOD’S small graces that sanctify us and help us over time to become more like JESUS.  HIS way only is certain and full of truth.  So let’s stand securely next to HOLY long enough and watch and see how it all rubs off on us!

LEVITICUS 21: 8   “…….FOR I, THE LORD WHO SANCTIFY YOU, AM HOLY.”

Spend quality time with the LORD of Holies and see.  See who HE is, follow, study HIM and love HIM every day.  Remember that we cannot get Holy in a hurry.  It takes time that often we don’t seem to have, but GOD is calling us nearer and nearer to abide with HIM.  This is our HOLY GOD, our RIGHTEOUS ONE, IMMANUEL, GOD WITH US!

1 PETER 1: 16   “…….BUT AS HE WHO CALLED YOU IS HOLY, YOU ALSO BE HOLY IN ALL YOUR CONDUCT.”

  1. I am SO THANKFUL that God gives us ears to hear (Is 3021 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.), and that He can show us how we’ve moved closer to Him and His ways. We DO make progress, and in His kindness, He gives us those moments and blessings of knowing we are drawing closer to Him.

  2. So well said that we do not get Holy in a hurry. We have to spend time with God, in prayer and studying the Bible. It is a commitment and a discipline – and those moments collective help us grow spiritually over time. He wants us to draw near to Him.

  3. Patience? ugh! We definitely aren’t a patient bunch. Many of us want things done the easy way or feel entitled to them. Waiting on God takes not just patience but also trust that He will guide us through it, if it aligns with His will and glorifies Him. But then we might wonder, “What about me?” That’s where the challenge lies: recognizing it’s not about us, but about Him. Once we grasp that and accept it, everything starts to fall into place.
