IF………..it’s such a little word and yet put on the beginning of a sentence or exclamation it can mean so much! 

SMALL WORD……..BIG IMPLICATIONS!

If can mean: in the event that or on the assumption that or on condition that.  It can be used as a function word to introduce an exclamation expressing a wish.  I like that description……cause then the word if has a function and it can express a wish……..

IF ONLY THE LORD WOULD COME SOON!!

Job was familiar with the word if.  All you have to do is turn to 31:1-40 and read all of JOB’S “ifs” that are there…….

IF I HAVE WALKED……..IF MY STEPS…….IF MY HEART…….IF I HAVE DENIED…….IF I HAVE KEPT…….IF I HAVE SEEN…….IF I HAVE RAISED

So with the above statements I think you get the picture……..if was a big deal to JOB.  And it should be to us as well.  There is one statement that JESUS made while teaching on the Mount of Olives and it should ring deep within us to do:

JOHN 8: 31  “SO JESUS SAID TO THE JEWS WHO HAD BELIEVED HIM, “IF YOU ABIDE IN MY WORD, YOU ARE TRULY MY DISCIPLES……..”

IF……..YOU……..ABIDE.  Another translation says:  “if you continue in MY Word……..”  It should give us pause to realize that JESUS said: if.  Because then HE was giving HIS disciples and us for that matter, a choice.  And I don’t know about you, but this is one if I don’t want to fail at.  If I abide and if I continue in HIS word, then I will know and understand truth.  This is the best truth in the world, not of the world, but supreme truth like none other.  The world’s truth is so flawed and satan loves to twist it, so why would we listen?

JOHN 8: 32  “THEN YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.”

IF……..THEN……..think about it.    If we stay close, then GOD stays close.  If we abide daily in HIS word, then we will know the truth and isn’t that what we all want?

And even though JOB had questions, had those “ifs” he still knew this in his heart and replied to the LORD:

JOB 42: 2  “I KNOW THAT YOU CAN DO ALL THINGS; NO PURPOSE OF YOURS CAN BE THWARTED.”

Rest in that my friends.  Even if you have questions, even if you doubt, even if you wonder and are sidetracked…….even…….if.  Trust that the GOD of the universe is listening, HE knows you and loves you still, even with all your ifs!

JOB 19: 25  “I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVES, AND THAT IN THE END HE WILL STAND ON THE EARTH.”
