JUST TURN

If you ponder it……..pride, self-centered thinking and even unbelief will keep us from turning and trusting the ONE who has long ago turned towards Creation with HIS loving open arms.

The word turn is really a small four letter word with much impact when used in a sentence!  We can turn from something or towards something.  We can turn the other cheek, or turn from evil.  Sometimes we turn to the right or the left and sometimes we turn around or we turn all the way around.

Turning from sin is what JESUS asks us to do daily.

Turning our attention away from the worldly lusts and putting our attention on JESUS alone is our best response……..it is the best action we can take with our lives.  Why?  Because HE is there and always there turned towards us!  HE patiently waits on us…….to turn and see……to see our sin, but more importantly to see JESUS for who HE is!

LUKE 22:61 “THEN THE LORD TURNED AND LOOKED AT PETER.  SO PETER REMEMBERED THE WORD OF THE LORD, HOW HE HAD SAID TO HIM, “BEFORE THE ROOSTER CROWS TODAY, YOU WILL DENY ME THREE TIMES.”

Can you imagine Peter’s rethinking on the above encounter?  JESUS turned to Peter first……I am sure the look in HIS eyes and the tone of HIS voice was memorable to Peter in more ways than he could ever imagine.  Peter was broken in that moment, but he was never the same after.

If we turn towards JESUS, HE never leaves us the way HE found us.

Are you getting the picture of how the word turn is important to us?  Maybe we refuse to turn towards JESUS because of our sin, we don’t want to admit it, or lay it down at the foot of the Cross.  We have a sin problem if we do not turn towards JESUS in the first place.

Or maybe we do not turn because of fear……fear of submitting ourselves fully and humbling ourselves on the altar that requires a true change…….a turning away from worldly things and comforts.

Turning towards JESUS will give us contentment…….a contentment the world knows nothing about.  Because when you have JESUS, you have everything, a priceless gift of love, mercy and grace.  Nothing and no one else will do this for us.

Our COMFORTER, our SAVIOR knows exactly what we need…….we need only to turn towards HIM.

When Mary found the tomb empty that morning long ago, she heard a voice say: “why are you crying?”  And when she turned around, she saw JESUS standing there, although she did not know who HE was.  But she heard her name being called: Mary.  The voice was familiar and sweet and then she knew……she had turned towards the ONE who knew her inside and out.   HE was her Rabboni, which means teacher.  JOHN 20: 16

We are in the school room of life, and when we turn from our worldly life, our Master Teacher, teaches us what living a forgiven life is all about!  When we turn, JESUS teaches, guides, and loves us abundantly through every step of our journey……

We need only to turn…….and HE is there.

If you have not yet truly given your life over to CHRIST, turn right now!  Bend your knees to HIM, ask for forgiveness for your sin, and welcome HIM into your heart.  Then commit to turning from worldly pursuits and start to turn the pages of your Bible and find the true treasure there said just for you.  Turn towards JESUS CHRIST, turn right now into the arms of the SAVIOR who loves you more than you will ever know!

JEREMIAH 35: 15 “TURN NOW EVERYONE FROM HIS EVIL WAY, AMEND YOUR DOINGS, AND DO NOT GO AFTER OTHER GODS TO SERVE THEM.”

  1. I read this, this morning, and thought of you: Frederick Buechner: “Turn around and believe that the good news that we are loved is better than we ever dared hope, and that to believe in that good news, to live out of it and toward it, to be in love with that good news, is of all glad things in this world the gladdest thing of all.”

  2. Amen to your post Maxine. So well written and we need to hear that message over and over again. Keep turning to Jesus, every day, every way, in all things! Loved it!
