NEW YEAR – NEW PEACE

FIND YOUR PEACE THIS YEAR

We are 11 days into the New Year and how is your peace?  I think we all have an internal meter as to whether we feel at peace or not.  When we are not, we have let the world dictate our lives and honestly you have to say to yourself:  how is this working?  Because the world really isn’t interested in our peace.  No, the enemy of this world wants to divide and create chaos.  And with each passing day it tends to get worse.

JOHN 14:  27  “PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU; MY PEACE I GIVE YOU.  I DO NOT GIVE TO YOU AS THE WORLD GIVES.  DO NOT LET YOUR HEARTS BE TROUBLED AND DO NOT BE AFRAID.”

Deep within us, we all seem to crave that peace of heart.  When our hearts are very troubled within, we tend to feel off balance and unsettled.  There are things that steal our peace, peace of mind and heart and it is important that we take stock and identify exactly what it is that is stealing this precious peace.  Are we moving closer to GOD or further away?

2 THESSALONIANS 3:  16  “NOW MAY THE LORD OF PEACE HIMSELF GIVE YOU PEACE AT ALL TIMES IN EVERY WAY.  THE LORD BE WITH YOU ALL.”

The LORD be with you in every way……..at all times.  It’s the at all times some of us need convincing of or even a reminding of.  One of the promises of GOD is that HE never leaves us!  Remember that and let it really sink into your soul this year.  And ask yourself this:  why would a good and gracious GOD, ONE who died for you…….leave you?  If you know the character of GOD this makes no sense.  We are the ones who drift and therefore we alone sacrifice our peace, not GOD!

HEBREWS 13:  5  “LET YOUR CONDUCT BE WITHOUT COVETOUSNESS; BE CONTENT WITH SUCH THINGS AS YOU HAVE.  FOR HE HIMSELF HAS SAID, “I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU NOR FORSAKE YOU.”

GOD can be trusted because HE is good and gives good gifts to those who are HIS.  And one good and wonderful gift is:  peace!

So ask HIM today for this peace: peace of your heart, peace in your mind, peace in your work or home or relationships.  Our GOD is a wonderful peacemaker.  We can learn from HIM and then extend that peace to others, besides embracing it ourselves.  Be the one who extends the hand of peace to someone today.  Make the call, write the letter or send the text.  Because we all need that peace that goes beyond any understanding of our own.  And don’t let pride get in the way.  Humble yourself before HIS throne and then ask for this gift.  HIS peace to us is quite precious.  Ask for it today……then go and live it out.

COLOSSIANS 3:  15   “LET THE PEACE OF CHRIST RULE IN YOUR HEARTS, SINCE AS MEMBERS OF ONE BODY YOU WERE CALLED TO PEACE.  AND BE THANKFUL.”

  1. “We are the ones who drift…” reminds me of a snippet I once read:

A woman and her husband were in his old pickup, traveling along a road. She looked over at him as he drove and smiled. “Remember, Honey, when we were young and attached at the hip? You couldn’t fit a piece of paper between us in this old truck.”

Her husband looked back at her, smiled, and said, “Well, I haven’t moved.”

Sometimes it’s a hard thing to “be content with such things as you have,” when “such things” include sickness, death, tough relationships, and other heartbreaks. God tells us to “count it all joy” when we face tribulations. Jesus did, when He, “for the joy set before Him” endured the cross.

Wow. How does God mingle joy and sorrow? I haven’t figured it out yet, but He has. Run to Him, indeed.
