GOD SENSE VS. COMMON SENSE

GOD’S WISDOM IS THE BEST THERE IS!

Charles Stanley says in his IN TOUCH devotional that “we put our common sense on the throne and then attach GOD’S name to it.”  What a clear-cut statement!  It is interesting because most of us feel we do have good common sense and probably have relied on it often.

PROVERBS 3:  1-2   “…….BUT LET YOUR HEART KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, FOR LENGTH OF DAYS AND YEARS OF LIFE AND PEACE THEY WILL ADD TO YOU.”

We must be very careful to not be wise in our own eyes…….

PROVERBS 3:  7-8   “BE NOT WISE IN YOUR OWN EYES; FEAR THE LORD AND TURN AWAY FROM EVIL.”

To get wisdom in any situation, we need to go to GOD first.  How often do we go to Google instead?  GOD will provide wisdom when asked and we need to be willing to search the scriptures to see what HIS WORD says to us.

I remember my Mom always saying how “that person didn’t have the good sense to get out of the rain.”  As a kid it was funny to me then, but as an adult I get it.  Common sense we are born with, but GOD’S sense and wisdom is so much better.  Oh what a treasure it is!

PROVERBS 2:  6   “FOR THE LORD GIVES WISDOM; FROM HIS MOUTH COME KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING.”

Seek HIM diligently today and do not lean on your own understanding.  Seek the LORD and all HIS goodness and you will lack no good thing.  Let us not take credit for any wisdom we have since all wisdom is GOD-breathed!

JAMES 3: 17   “BUT THE WISDOM THAT IS FROM ABOVE IS FIRST PURE, THEN PEACEABLE, GENTLE, WILLING TO YIELD, FULL OF MERCY AND GOOD FRUITS, WITHOUT PARTIALITY AND WITHOUT HYPROCRISY.”

GOD’S WISDOM IS PERFECT.  We are fools if we think any man here has more wisdom than what comes from above.  Seek HIS wisdom in all things today and everyday.  It truly is a jewel and the GOD of the universe knows what HE is doing.

PROVERBS 3:  19   “THIS ALSO COMES FROM THE LORD OF HOSTS; HE IS WONDERFUL IN COUNSEL AND EXCELLENT IN WISDOM.”

Praise GOD today for the wisdom HE has given you, then ask for more!  HIS well is deep and never runs dry!

JAMES 1:  5   “IF ANY OF YOU LACKS WISDOM, YOU SHOULD ASK GOD, WHO GIVES GENEROUSLY TO ALL WITHOUT FINDING FAULT, AND IT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU.”

  1. So often God gives us wisdom & direction that seems contrary to common sense. But He’ll let us know it’s from HIM. How blessed we are when we follow Him, and He gives us peeks into His marvelous redemption and creativity!

  2. “we put our common sense on the throne and then attach GOD’S name to it.” – gosh! that can be so true. May we ask God for wisdom and then follow with obedience, relying on Him even when things don’t make sense.

    1. And the “when things don’t make sense” can be so very hard. Trust and trust even more, even when you don’t trust your own understanding! All this seems to be the wonderful MYSTERY of our Savior GOD!
