GUARD THE GOOD DEPOSIT

GUARD THE GOOD DEPOSIT OF THE SPIRIT

May the Gospel we know be something we guard as if it were a treasure because it truly is a treasure and a gift like none other.

2 TIMOTHY 1: 14  “BY THE HOLY SPIRIT WHO DWELLS WITHIN US, GUARD THE GOOD DEPOSIT ENTRUSTED TO YOU.”

What a gift given to us!  What a message of love and grace.  This gift is truth and very sound.  We can stand securely upon it.  And we can trust this message when we share it with others.  Because we are living this message every day with JESUS by our side.

I think it interesting that the word guard is used here.  Paul reminds Timothy to guard again here:

1 TIMOTHY 6: 20 – 21  “O TIMOTHY, GUARD THE DEPOSIT ENTRUSTED TO YOU.  AVOID THE IRREVERENT BABBLE AND CONTRADICTIONS OF WHAT IS FALSELY CALLED “KNOWLEDGE”, FOR BY PROFESSING IT SOME HAVE SWERVED FROM THE FAITH.”

Oh how we should guard our hearts and our minds in CHRIST JESUS!  May we take each thought captive for CHRIST and guard our mouths above all.  What comes out of us is what is in us and if we know the truth, let’s speak the truth!  If we guard the truth, then let’s call out false doctrines.  They are all around us today in this current world.  When a scripture is twisted by someone, call it out and correct it.  Guard HIS truth above all else.

The NLT says the above this way:

1 TIMOTHY 6: 20   “TIMOTHY, GUARD WHAT GOD HAS ENTRUSTED TO YOU.”

GUARD what GOD has ENTRUSTED to you!  Seems a little more important here saying it this way.  We should be aware of what we do have within us, how we share it and when.  May we rightly handle the truth:

2 TIMOTHY 2: 15   “DO YOUR BEST TO PRESENT YOURSELF TO GOD AS ONE APPROVED, A WORKER WHO HAS NO NEED TO BE ASHAMED, RIGHTLY HANDLING THE WORD OF TRUTH.”

If we have guarded the gospel faithfully and shared it well with others, then we will finish well too.  We must zealously protect GOD’S word with the Spirit’s help.  And so this fight, this care and this one faith is all accomplished by GOD’S infinite grace for us.  May we rightly handle all that has been entrusted to us!

As we guard the truth, let us guard our hearts too.  Let us live out this truth in an authentic way…….

PROVERBS 4: 23   “GUARD YOUR HEART ABOVE ALL ELSE, FOR IT DETERMINES THE COURSE OF YOUR LIFE.”

In this handling of what we know to be the truth, may we never mock it, abuse it or change it.  The gospel and scriptures are nothing less than the very breath of GOD!

As we go into this Passion Week, who can you share HIS truth with?  Who might you invite to Church?

ROMANS 1: 16   “FOR I AM NOT ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL, FOR IT IS THE POWER OF GOD FOR SALVATION TO EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES………”

  1. Yes, yes! I am drawn to Eph 1.13b, 14 When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

God deposited His very Self into our keeping!

And Ps 84.10b I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked

We have a solemn responsibility to safely guard and protect that precious deposit.

    1. YES we do, to guard this precious deposit. I have always loved Psalm 84 by the way, especially 10. I know I would be fine being a doorkeeper of the House of the LORD! No job there would be too lowly for me. Would love just being there with JESUS!

  2. Such a powerful reminder to treasure and guard the truth we’ve been given. The Gospel is truly a gift like no other, unshakable, life-giving, and full of grace. Let us live it boldly, share it faithfully, and protect it with love.

    You Are Loved.

  3. Treasure and guard the truth given to us. Yes and 🙏🏽. We should not tolerate or excuse the diluting or the changing of scripture. I love that you also included guarding our mouths and our hearts.
