SUNDAY REFLECTIONS

BREAK UP YOUR UNPLOWED GROUND

I love how GOD speaks to us through agricultural images.  Have you noticed?  There are many in the Bible.  I came across one this week that really hit home:

HOSEA 10: 12   “SOW RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR YOURSELVES AND REAP FAITHFUL LOVE; BREAK UP YOUR UNPLOWED GROUND.  IT IS TIME TO SEEK THE LORD UNTIL HE COMES AND SENDS RIGHTEOUSNESS ON YOU LIKE THE RAIN.”

This verse got me thinking:  unplowed ground is unused ground.  A plow opens up the ground and where in my life do I need to do some plowing?  I don’t want my heart to have unplowed ground, where hardness sits and unbelief is present.  I want a heart like JESUS and that takes some submission on my part to be willing to let HIM still change me and grow me to be more like HIM.

SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO PLOW DEEP

When we ask HIM, GOD has HIS way of breaking up old resentments, unbelief and attitudes that are causing us to walk like the world.

SOW RIGHTEOUSNESS AND REAP FAITHFUL LOVE

I long for HIS righteousness and HIS deep faithful love.  But I also must sow in this righteousness and be faithful in my love.   I continue to wonder………..what should I be cultivating in my heart so that it is prepared for HIS special planting and harvesting?  And how do I go about plowing deeper?

I started a new study this week……..it goes deep into how to pray the scriptures, how to highlight words in a sentence and pray those words and how to have GOD’S ear.  Beginning something new, learning another way to let HIS word sink in has shown me that this is unplowed ground for me.  I walked away from the second day of study thinking: “wow, where have I been?”

Fall is coming, the weather changes and here is our opportunity to be intentional about plowing deeper.  What is GOD showing us in this season and where in our hearts do we have unplowed ground?  How can we yield to HIS growth, HIS words and HIS spirit?

It’s a good thing to go deeper, to inquire, seek and search carefully all the scriptures.  Plowing deep does reveal treasures we never knew existed.  We then are remade again and again by our GOD who makes all things new!  HE is our joy, HE is our special treasure.

LET US GROW WITH A GROWTH THAT ONLY COMES FROM GOD

The deeper we go, the more GOD reveals to us.  HE intends hidden treasure for us because HE wants us to never give up and to continually seek after HIM because GOD is our MASTER GARDENER.  So begin  plowing today and take comfort in knowing GOD has something for you there………keep plowing and HE will keep revealing.

1 CORINTHIANS 9: 10   “…….BECAUSE THE PLOWMAN SHOULD PLOW IN HOPE…….”

  1. Oh, Maxine, don’t I love this post! We MUST be willing to allow God to look deep into ourselves; we MUST be willing to allow Him to plow (and He LONGS to do that for our blessing and His glory!

And, YES! How do we do that, but by looking into His Word? I love your approach: starting a new Bible study for a fresh perspective. Change is hard, especially when we like where we are already. Bless you for stepping into God’s invitation, and thank you for sharing.

  2. This is such a powerful post, Maxine. You have given me much to think about and pray about. What a gift that God is there, to help us discover and plow up those areas in our lives. Then He can create new growth to come through. Isn’t He just so amazing? What a gift we have in Him. Thank you for this inspiring read! ♥️

  3. Love this post Maxine. Plowing deep and allowing God to work in those areas.
Praying scriptures- there is so much power in that and it is something that I have been trying and hoping to do more and more of. Is it ok to ask which study it is you refer to.

  4. I’m excited to take your advice to heart and look for areas in my own life where I can allow God to plow deeper and prepare me for His work.

Thank you for sharing this profound perspective and for reminding us of the importance of ongoing growth and transformation in our walk with God.
