DON’T JUST TELL THEM, SHOW THEM!

OUR ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS

It’s been said many times and I have said it myself that actions speak louder than words.  My Mom said it to me.  I said it to my son.  And so, saying we are a Christian and then speaking all the right words is one thing, but oh how our actions matter and make an impact!

There are so many today who are so self-involved, entitled and can’t seem to see past their nose.  It is sad really, but we are called to do more, to go that extra mile, to love more and to consider those around us………

PHILIPPIANS 2: 3   “DO NOTHING FROM SELFISH AMBITION OR CONCEIT, BUT IN HUMILITY COUNT OTHERS MORE SIGNIFICANT THAN YOURSELVES.”

With our actions we go that extra mile, pay it forward and show those around us that they are important……..important to GOD.   My Church ends every service with the saying: YOU ARE LOVED.  It’s a reminder to me that I am part of the Body of Christ, but also a disciple that needs to show other people outside of Church that they are loved to.  My actions matter only because of this:

WE MAY BE THE ONLY JESUS SOMEONE ENCOUNTERS

It’s why we live different, love different and use our actions to display all that we believe in CHRIST.

JAMES 2: 14   “WHAT GOOD IS IT, MY BROTHERS, IF SOMEONE SAYS HE HAS FAITH BUT DOES NOT HAVE WORKS?”

Words matter, but sometimes people don’t even hear.  And often I wonder in our world today, how our words fall on deaf ears.  People are unwilling to hear what you have to say, so you must show them with actions.

SHOW THEM DON’T JUST TELL THEM

I believe that when people find out who you are in CHRIST, they watch you and they probably watch you closer than you think.  So we are on display……..display for the ONE SAVIOR we believe in.  No, we are not perfect because we have been saved by the only perfect ONE.  We understand that, the world doesn’t and so we are watched and often held to an even higher standard than we realize.  The world does this because we are a Christian and so we are to be……………you fill in the blanks.

THERE ARE COUNTLESS WAYS TO LOVE, BECAUSE HE LOVED US FIRST

There are countless ways of action to show HIS grace to others and even mercy.  So don’t just throw words at people………act.  Because we love GOD, we can show others HIS love through us.

JOHN PIPER SAYS THIS:

“GOD WILLS TO BE DISPLAYED AND KNOWN AND LOVED AND CHERISHED AND WORSHIPED ALWAYS AND EVERYWHERE AND IN EVERY ACT.”

And…….in……..every……..act.  Our actions speak more than we think.  They can be big or small, but they need to be done in love, done in sacrifice and done in humble service.

Don’t just tell people, show them.  Show them your joy in CHRIST too.  Because you never know who is watching and who is waiting, just to be loved.

MATTHEW 5: 16   “IN THE SAME WAY, LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE BEFORE OTHERS, SO THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD WORKS AND GIVE GLORY TO YOUR FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN.”

  1. Sometimes we don’t even know why we do something for another person – we’re just kind of compelled. We may or may not think anything of it. But when we act in obedience, God uses us for His glory. I think there will be SO MANY stories in Heaven!

      1. Don’t know if you saw from my blog but my husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last year. It is a rare incurable blood cancer. He gets chemo every 2 weeks but the good news is that right now he is remission. After me being diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2022 this was quite a shock. But GOD is good giving us much peace and blessed days.

      2. Oh, I am so sorry to hear that, but I am glad to hear that he is in remission. Yes, I can’t image both of you having cancer, one after the other. But you are right. God is good. 3 years ago I got deathly ill from an infestation of mice in our apartment. I was sick for like 6 months, and I ended up with neuropathy in my right leg, and I now walk with a walker. A year later our apartment was flooded from the apartment above us and I got sick, deathly ill again, and that lasted about six months, and I lost half of my hair, but it has grown back since then. But God is good. It was great hearing from you again. Sorry I don’t read and respond as much as I did before. The Lord has me on a busy schedule and we spend a lot of time with our kids and grandkids, too. I will try to do better at staying in touch. Love to you! Sue

      3. Oh that’s ok. Wow you have been through some tough stuff. Everyone has something right? I am so thankful GOD watches out for us when we are right in the middle of physical or mental hardship. HE is good that way, we just need to watch for HIM because HE is there. Open our eyes LORD to see all YOUR goodness! Take good care and enjoy your grandkids too!

  2. What a wonderful and powerful message.

Philippians 2:3 is a profound call to humility and selflessness, urging us to prioritize the needs and significance of others above our own. This scripture aligns perfectly with your point about the necessity of demonstrating love and care in tangible ways, rather than just speaking about it. Our actions, motivated by humility and genuine concern for others, become a reflection of God’s love in us.

James 2:14 further emphasizes that faith without works is incomplete. It challenges us to put our beliefs into practice, showing that our faith is alive and active. It’s not enough to simply claim our faith; we must let it manifest in our deeds, which serve as evidence of our true commitment to Christ.
