MUCH CAN BE SAID

WORDS LIFT OR TEAR DOWN

I think I have written about words more than any other subject on this blog.  Maybe it’s because I was abused with words by an old skating coach I had.  Funny thing is that if he were alive today and a complaint put against him, he would have been banned from the sport.  Being abused by words does a number on you and often they are words you have never forgotten.

Our very words build or tear down and they are in the spotlight right now in this country.  Harsh words have cost lives and killed spirits.

I guess when you write and are aware of your words, words that are meaningful and kind, words that matter, you just notice them more, even when they come out of your own mouth!

Haven’t we all said words we wish we could take back?  I know I have!  And once those words are out there, you can never take them back.  That’s why we should listen to GOD’S wisdom about words.  HIS word is truth, a truth we can totally depend on.  HIS words are pure, loving and full of grace.  It would be wise for us to listen to them and learn.

PROVERBS 30: 5   “EVERY WORD OF GOD IS PURE; HE IS A SHIELD TO THOSE WHO TAKE REFUGE IN HIM.”

I would rather take refuge in the words of the FATHER, than the words of the world.

PSALMS 119:  107   “LORD, GIVE ME LIFE ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD.”

May our fruit of righteousness be sown in words that are kind, gentle and peace loving.

Harsh words that are lies can last a lifetime and lies about someone are so very destructive.  I guess when people don’t have GOD in their life, they live to spew hate with their words.  I have to wonder, do these very people ever think before they speak?   We show our true character by how we say things to people and in the scriptures we are reminded of this:

JAMES 3: 6   “AND THE TONGUE IS A FIRE.  THE TONGUE, A WORLD OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, IS PLACED AMONG OUR MEMBERS.  IT STAINS THE WHOLE BODY, SETS THE COURSE OF LIFE ON FIRE AND IS ITSELF SET ON FIRE BY HELL.”

And this:

PROVERBS 15: 4   “THE SOOTHING TONGUE IS A TREE OF LIFE, BUT A PERVERSE TONGUE CRUSHES THE SPIRIT.”

Today in our current world, because misery seems to love company, let us be that light in the darkness with our words.  Pay attention to every word you say, because our LORD is paying attention too.  And ask HIM to cover your mouth when the thoughts run away into the danger zone.  May GOD help us with how we speak to our family and friends, co-workers and neighbors.  Because words breathe life or they breathe death.

PROVERBS 15: 1   “A GENTLE ANSWER TURNS AWAY WRATH, BUT A HARSH WORD STIRS UP ANGER.”

  1. When we keep our hearts clean with God’s Word, then we can speak with gentleness, kindness, and wisdom.

Luke 6.45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

I’m so glad God never needs to take back what He said!

  2. Thank you for this powerful reflection on the impact of our words.

It’s so true that words have the power to build up or tear down, and your personal experience really highlights this reality. I love how you bring in Scripture to remind us of the importance of using our words wisely.

Proverbs and Psalms offer such profound wisdom on this subject.

May we all strive to speak with kindness and grace, and be a light in the darkness with our words.

May the Lord Continue to Bless You today and always.

    You Are Loved.
