OUR HIGHEST AUTHORITY

Are you a mountain person or a beach person?  Both have their amazing beauty, both made by the hand of GOD.  I am drawn continuously to the work of HIS hands……are you?  Gazing upon the ocean or looking up at a summit peak makes one realize that there is SOMEONE larger than ourselves.  All of creation has an authority over it.

So in this present day…….who sits on the throne of your life?  Is it GOD or someone or something?  Because we all will have someone or something we worship and lift high.

Let’s be very very careful when we want to know what truth is and who decides what truth is.  Truth can be defined  by the world, or politics or media.  Who is the real truth?  In John, Pilate did ask JESUS: “what is truth?”

JOHN 18:38  “PILATE SAID TO HIM, “WHAT IS TRUTH?”  AFTER HE HAD SAID THIS, HE WENT BACK OUTSIDE TO THE JEWS AND TOLD THEM, I FIND NO GUILT IN HIM.”

Pilate also asked in verse 33: “are you King of the Jews?”  Pilate was asking who was sitting on the throne of his world, but JESUS was saying that HIS kingdom was not of the world and therefore HE was the highest authority over all.  Pilate was unwilling to listen to the truth before him and instead chose to sentence an innocent man to death.  And it is the same for us, yes, it can be a pure tragedy when we don’t recognize the truth before our very eyes.

People make their own truth these days and it is why we should never trust the world’s truth.  Just because a majority believes something, doesn’t make it truth.  Having faith in and of itself is nothing.  People can have faith in many different things.  The object of that faith is everything to faith.  So who do we believe, and hold as the highest authority in all things and where do we search for the truth?

In the Spurgeon study Bible, he says in his notes that “our LORD in effect tells us that the truth of GOD is the preeminent characteristic of HIS kingdom and that HIS royal power over men’s hearts is through the truth of GOD.”

There is nothing like HIM and HIS wisdom and truth.  I always find answers to anything I need to know in my Bible……..do you?  GOD’S wisdom is true authority and we should search for it as if we are searching for treasure…….

1 CORINTHIANS 2: 7  “NO, WE DECLARE GOD’S WISDOM, A MYSTERY THAT HAS BEEN HIDDEN AND THAT GOD DESTINED FOR OUR GLORY BEFORE TIME BEGAN.”

We are blessed my friends if we realize that GOD and all that HE is, has been and always will be, the highest authority over everything!  GOD’S truth remains hidden to those who refuse to accept it or who choose to ignore it.  It is HIS will to open eyes to see HIS truth…….HIS truth is the highest authority now and forever.

David knew and fully embraced GOD’S authority over him.  In spite of those who pursued him, he called continuously on the LORD to save him.  He fully trusted GOD to stop those who were unjustly causing trouble…..

PSALM 31: 3-5  “SINCE YOU ARE MY ROCK AND MY FORTRESS, FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR NAME LEAD AND GUIDE ME. KEEP ME FREE FROM THE TRAP THAT IS SET FOR ME, FOR YOU ARE MY REFUGE.  INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT; DELIVER ME, LORD, MY FAITHFUL GOD.”

David knew GOD’S character and he trusted HIS deliverance and HIS almighty protection.  David knew that to be his only truth!  Can we say the same?

IS THE ONE TRUE GOD THE ONLY AUTHORITY OVER OUR HEARTS AND ALL THAT WE HOLD DEAR?  GOD GAVE US HIS WORD AND LEFT WITH US THE GUIDE, THE TRUE HELPER IN OUR LIVES.  AND HE SENT HIS ONE AND ONLY SON TO SAVE THE WORLD.  MAY WE SEEK HIS PROFOUND TRUTH DAILY AND EMBRACE JESUS WITH ALL HEART AND SOUL, LEARN FROM HIM AND TREASURE HIM.  BECAUSE JESUS IS…….. OUR HIGHEST AUTHORITY!

MARK 1: 22 “THE PEOPLE WERE AMAZED AT HIS TEACHING, BECAUSE HE TAUGHT THEM AS ONE WHO HAD AUTHORITY, NOT AS THE TEACHERS OF THE LAW.”

  2. Truth! I always look forward to your posts, Maxine, because you recognize and bow before God’s Truth, and proclaim it.
God gives us so much peace in knowing He holds the plumb line against which all else compares. We can rest in His unfailing truth, faithfulness, and love.

  3. Beautiful post Maxine! Praise God!
Andrew Garfield, an actor being interviewed about a movie he did that required delving into the”spiritual” realm, said that “Certainty scares him”. I watched as the audience seemed to be in awe of his limited and worldly “wisdom” as he elaborated.
    Afterwards, I thought, he’s right!
If you are depending on your own certainty then you should be scared!
    Why?
    1. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
    Proverbs 3:5 ESV
    2. “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?”
    Numbers 23:19 ESV
    3. ““Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
    Revelation 4:11 ESV
The one and only true God is not limited by space, time, or matter.
Our small brain has a hard time fitting God in it. Mr. Garfield should be scared and quite frankly, very disappointed if his god fits into his 3 pound brain.
