I love any kind of study that brings me to the point of questioning myself, where I am in my faith walk and why. In the current Bible study I am doing, it was highlighted that not only is GOD the GOD of commands, but HE is also the GOD of questions. Did you ever notice?
If you think about it, we tend to only focus on our own questions, but what about HIS that go all the way back to the Garden? Remember when GOD asked this…..
GENESIS 3: 9: “BUT THE LORD GOD CALLED TO THE MAN AND SAID TO HIM, WHERE ARE YOU?”
GOD’S questions to us have a way of drawing us near to HIM and they require us to examine ourselves deeply.
Could it be that GOD was asking where Adam and Eve were in the Garden because HE wanted them to see that there really was no place for them to hide……ever?
Next, GOD asks this question:
GENESIS 3: 13 “WHAT IS THIS THAT YOU HAVE DONE?”
Isn’t it just like our wonderful GOD to show man that HE is GOD and we are not! And that HE is all knowing and we certainly fall short!
When you are a CHRIST follower, you find the more answers you get, the more questions you have.
JESUS and HIS interaction with the disciples was abundant with HIS questions for them. The Pharisees and scribes were always questioning JESUS, just trying to trip HIM up in HIS answers to them. But HIS answers always raised even more questions!
Look at this exchange in Matthew 15: 2 “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat.” And JESUS answered them……
“and why do you break the commandment of GOD for the sake of your tradition?” vs.3
GOD’S questions to us run deep my friends. HE is always drawing us in HIS direction to see things from HIS perspective.
Oh how we are a questioning people of our LORD. I wonder if HE ever gets tired of us? But HE is the Master of questions…….questions that really do lead us into an intimacy with HIM. When you draw near to HIM, HE draws near to you…….isn’t that what we all crave…….a deep loving relationship?
GOD’S questions sharpen our faith, guide us in our faith journeys and draw us ever deeper.
Sometimes we are so stuck on our own questions, that we don’t see what we should…….pay attention to HIS questions for you. They are powerful, to the point and life changing! HIS questions number as many as the stars in the Heavens.
I have rethought these questions and remembered one specific time when I literally was on my knees, broken and at the true end of myself asking why? My heart heard GOD answer with a “don’t you know that I can do this better than you?” In that moment, that question literally washed over me like nothing ever in my life has. And the outcome on my part was seeing that I needed to trust GOD over everything else and over myself for sure. Putting my trust in my own worry was meaningless and putting my trust back where it belonged in HIS Sovereign wisdom was the only way. One question from GOD had a powerful effect on me and changed my life at that point. I can see that moment as a turning point for me in trusting GOD over everything else in this world. I learned to release into HIS capable hands those things I worry about, because HE knows better! My ritual of worry ended with HIS question for me.
PSALM 55:22″GIVE YOUR WORRIES TO THE LORD, AND HE WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU.”
How about you? What has GOD asked of you lately? I would love to hear what question you are desperately working out in your faith walk to answer! Remember, HE is the vine and we are HIS branches and HE prunes us to make us fruitful. HIS questions always cut out what shouldn’t be there in the first place. HE is working on us because HE loves us and is making us all into HIS image. Pay attention to HIS questions……..HE wants that relationship with you to go much deeper and beyond all we could imagine. And deeper it will go, if you take the time to listen for HIS questions to you. Don’t ignore them.
Because we have a loving, forgiving GOD that is Sovereign over all our lives, HE reaches down from Heaven and draws us into a deep relationship with HIM…….be prepared to seek and find. Be prepared to learn from HIS questions for you, because GOD is the GOD of relationship.
ISAIAH 55: 2-3 “WHY SPEND YOUR MONEY ON SOMETHING THAT IS NOT REAL FOOD? WHY WORK FOR SOMETHING THAT DOESN’T REALLY SATISFY YOU? LISTEN CLOSELY TO ME, AND YOU WILL EAT WHAT IS GOOD; YOUR SOUL WILL ENJOY THE RICH FOOD THAT SATISFIES. COME TO ME AND LISTEN; LISTEN TO ME SO YOU MAY LIVE.”

This is wonderful and was just preached recently at my church using the same scripture!

I was reading in Acts 8 this morning, about Philip and the Ethiopian. Philip asks the Ethiopian if he understands what he is reading, and the Ethiopian responds with a question, How can I, unless someone guides me?
Philip was in that location in direct obedience to God’s call. It is up to us to act in obedience when God leads. Look what God can do. The poor Ethiopian was confused, and he was so humble about it; and God provided. I love that.

Wonderful post, dear Maxine! In my experience, God’s questions cause us to think and to take responsibility for our thoughts and actions. When God asks me a question, I must bow before Him in utmost humility for I most often need to acknowledge my own wrong action or understanding before Him. Thankfully, He is a gentle Shepherd and His correction is always for my good! Thank you for helping me to go deeper with my understanding of our Savior. Your post is filled with such godly wisdom! God bless you greatly, my wonderful and godly friend!! ❤ ❤ and huge hugs!!
