BATTLE SCARS

What do you do when the war comes to you?  We are in a daily battle, a battle for souls and the enemy would like nothing better than to take ours too.  We must daily, put on the armor of GOD and remember this……

EPHESIANS 6: 16

“IN EVERY SITUATION TAKE UP THE SHIELD OF FAITH WITH WHICH YOU CAN EXTINGUISH ALL THE FLAMING ARROWS OF THE EVIL ONE.”

JESUS never said that following HIM would be an easy task…….we actually are in a daily battle and we can expect to be persecuted by the world and even by our family and friends.  Sometimes we can be in a battle within our own Church walls, especially if there is frustration and division.

But sometimes the war comes right to our door within our own homes.  Sometimes we are plugging along in life and those words come at us out of nowhere.  You know the ones, the ones that can leave scars behind.  It can be a husband or wife asking for a divorce or it can be a cancer diagnosis from a doctor.

A battle…….a battle for life, a battle for peace, a battle for acceptance, a battle for eternity.  Eternity is the important one, the only one that matters really.  More often than not, we are at war with life itself!  And when we are, the tears come and the knees bend and we ask GOD why?

When we aren’t prepared for it, the war breaks out and we step into the battle and often we have no idea how long it will last.

So which is it for you?  Are you ready?  If a situation comes knocking at your door when you never asked for it, are you prepared?  Sometimes we say life didn’t turn out at all like we expected it to and we never signed up for the battle, let alone the battle scars life leaves behind!  Battles cannot be ignored because………

SOME ATTACKS FROM THE ENEMY OR LIFE IN GENERAL ARE MEANT TO GROW YOU……..AND SOME ARE MEANT TO SHOW YOU.

When we are in a battle we need to understand this…….we may grow or we may be shown.  We will learn something about ourselves and GOD’S perfect wisdom for us.  HE will show us or grow us!  Let us trust HIM for the showing and the growing!

2 SAMUEL 22: 18-20 “HE RESCUED ME FROM MY STRONG ENEMY, FROM THOSE WHO HATED ME, FOR THEY WERE TOO MIGHTY FOR ME.  THEY CONFRONTED ME IN THE DAY OF MY CALAMITY BUT THE LORD WAS MY SUPPORT.  HE BROUGHT ME OUT INTO A BROAD PLACE; HE RESCUED ME, BECAUSE HE DELIGHTED IN ME.”

Isn’t it wonderful that the GOD of the universe delights in us enough to rescue us?  In all our battles HE never leaves us and always manages to grow us or show us, but one thing we can be so certain of:  HE LOVES US!

Do you have some battle scars?  Everyone does in some way.  But scars can be beautiful!  They can be reminders of victory in the battle.  The enemy would have you believe that those scars are shameful and that they need to be hidden, and to run from them.  But the LORD wants you to carry them as a witness to those around you.  It’s ok to have those battle scars, because that is how we grow as Christians and mature.  And that is how we encourage and spur one another on in life.

We can run from the battle, that unexpected war that showed up, but JESUS says HE will stand alongside us and help us persevere.

PSALM 60:12 “WITH GOD WE WILL GAIN THE VICTORY, AND HE WILL TRAMPLE DOWN OUR ENEMIES.”

And if you think about it, there is a song in all those battle scars of the broken and beautiful, a song of redemption!

With JESUS’ help in our battle, we can stand tall, putting on the armor of GOD and forgive others, love our enemies, bear each others burdens with patience and perseverance and do it all with confidence because we know that the battle will grow us or show us and that the battle is won in JESUS CHRIST!

So when the war comes to your door, make sure you let JESUS in first!

HE will share in the battle with you and HE will give you the courage to see it through……because some battles grow you and some show you.  But we have victory in CHRIST, because all our battles are meant for our eternal destiny.

1 CORINTHIANS 15: 57 “BUT THANKS BE TO GOD!  HE GIVES US THE VICTORY THROUGH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.”

  1. “So when the war comes to your door, make sure you let JESUS in first!” That’s the key, what we choose to let in first; His love, or pride. The battle is either His, or a fight with our own strength! Well said!!

    1. Amen! Indeed, those scars serve as a reminder of His love towards us. I have a couple of scars, from brain surgery and from spinal surgery. At times it’s a reminder of a incredibly difficult time, but it’s also so beautiful to see how far I’ve come.

      2. Yes, very humbled that He’s had His hands on all the surgeries I’ve come out from. Just recently my brothers, childhood friends father passed away. His wife was with him as they prepared him for heart surgery, he said he’d see her after he woke up from anesthesia, only he didn’t. The best doctors the hospital had to offer attended to him for surgery. It’s truly up to Him and when He decides to call us back Home. Thank you for such sweet comment, I appreciate it! 😊🙏🏽

  2. Amen. Following Him isn’t going to be easy – indeed. Very lovely post, a reminder that following Him is always best, even when I’m too stubborn to listen to Him, He’s patiently waiting for me to return – like the Father always does.

      1. I take it as it is – follow me. Even, if I read it correctly, it doesn’t read follow me tomorrow, or Thursday, it reads, follow me. He does indeed speak so straight forward, but it’s me that tries to interpret things to my convenience. He is always there – amen, He is! Thank you, many blessings to you as well! 🙏🏽
