I’ve always thought of myself as ordinary, sometimes looked over and not noticed. Some people just stand out in a crowd! I wouldn’t say I have done extraordinary things either. I think I have done just some simple things that make up moments that collect like jewels over a lifetime.
ORDINARY PEOPLE DO EXTRAORDINARY THINGS BECAUSE OF GOD’S REDEMPTIVE PLAN
In GOD’S economy fame and fortune mean nothing. GOD looks for those hearts that are obedient to HIM and who love HIM. GOD used those shepherds long ago who were simple men and the Magi (astrologers and likely academics) to go and see the Baby JESUS and then spread the good news to all who would listen. GOD’S good news to humanity was spread by ordinary men!
MATTHEW 2: 10 “WHEN THEY SAW THE STAR, THEY REJOICE EXCEEDINGLY WITH GREAT JOY.”
GOD’S work and the joy of it extends through ordinary men and women’s hands and feet. No matter how insignificant we see ourselves, GOD can use us in HIS magnificent plan. HIS power works through simple and ordinary people! HIS power works through the humble and submissive souls.
Sometimes I ask GOD: do YOU see me? It’s a question you ask when you do and study and read and write and wonder if anything matters? And often when I wonder, HE answers me with the least likely person speaking to me in a kind and gracious way, so much so that I know it is HIM using that person to answer my questions.
THE HOLY SPIRIT SPEAKS THROUGH THE ORDINARY, SIMPLE, BROKEN AND KIND-HEARTED.
GOD meets all our needs and meets the needs of others through us. HE is extraordinary in HIS gifts to us, all at the perfect time and especially when we personally feel unseen. So then, none of us are ordinary in GOD’S eyes. HIS extraordinary plan is one to be carried out by each of us…….to spread the good news of the GOSPEL.
ISAIAH 52: 7 “HOW BEAUTIFUL UPON THE MOUNTAINS ARE THE FEET OF HIM WHO BRINGS GOOD NEWS, WHO PROCLAIMS PEACE, WHO BRINGS GLAD TIDINGS OF GOOD THINGS, WHO PROCLAIMS SALVATION, WHO SAYS TO ZION, YOUR GOD REIGNS!”
How beautiful are the feet of the simple and ordinary…….who are so very treasured in GOD’S eyes! How beautiful are the feet of those who love JESUS!
Because GOD is love and fills us with HIS love, we tend to want HIM to lead us to others who need HIS love. LOVE covers a multitude of sins and in doing, loving the ordinary and unlovable will over time……..make them extraordinary!
Blessings and love to all who feel ordinary. Remember today that you have one extraordinary GOD who loves you!
Oh, how 2 Cor 4.7 encapsulates your beautiful unpacking of it!
Yes, I do feel quite ordinary; sometimes it is a comfort, and sometimes I feel unseen. God knows just when to give me a peek into His blessings that He works through me. It still bowls me over that GOD uses me – ME! But how wonderful to know when someone has been blessed, and the glory goes to God!
My need is to remember to thank others when they’ve been a blessing to me. I am not very good at expressing recognition of special qualities in those with whom I interact. My mind is fully challenged just keeping up with conversation! I pray I become more of a people-person, as Jesus was.

Oh Kathy! What I see that you do so so well is to encourage! Everyone needs a little encouragement and a small lift. Then they know they are seen by you and by your GOD! Blessings this 2026 my friend!

Maxine, this is such a beautiful reminder. Even when we feel ordinary or unnoticed, God sees our hearts and uses our simple, faithful steps in ways we cannot imagine. It’s amazing how He can work through the humble and ordinary to do extraordinary things for His glory.
You Are Dearly Loved.
