HERE WE ARE AGAIN…….In February. It is the month of love and hearts. As we think about hearts in general, let’s take stock of our own hearts to see if GOD has written upon them in such a way that our true heart’s desire is one of possession and not position.
Are we really more interested in our position in life, our status or is our desire for a heart like JESUS? If you really ponder it, the New Testament has little to speak of about leadership. No, JESUS came to serve and HIS desire is for us to have a servant’s heart. HE must take possession of our heart first and foremost and then and only then can we understand what our position is in this life.
And even when we serve, we should question our motives. Are they ones to be seen and recognized or to serve and glorify GOD? If JESUS possesses our hearts, then where or how we serve doesn’t matter. We are there with open arms to be placed where needed……position isn’t important. Possession is. When JESUS gets hold of our heart, truly hold of it, the result is our wanting to serve……..ONLY HIM!
This way of thinking, under the authority of CHRIST is very counter-cultural today where self is highly esteemed on Facebook and Instagram. Serving in CHRIST allows the self to submit to all HE asks of you……..and you say yes!
When JESUS was with HIS disciples HE took a towel, bent down and washed the disciples feet. Read how HE did this and be struck by it!
JOHN 13: 4-5 “HE LAID ASIDE HIS OUTER GARMENTS AND TAKING A TOWEL, TIED IT AROUND HIS WAIST. THEN HE POURED WATER INTO A BASIN AND BEGAN TO WASH THE DISCIPLES FEET AND TO WIPE THEM WITH THE TOWEL THAT WAS WRAPPED AROUND HIM.”
PONDER THIS: THE GOD OF THE UNIVERSE, POSITIONS HIMSELF ON HIS KNEES TO WASH DIRTY FEET!
What an expression and example of humility and servant-hood, but what an example of love for HIS disciples!
This was even an example of love for HIS enemy, because JESUS also washed Judas Iscariot’s feet. I wonder if I am capable of doing just that? Are you? Are we showing our enemies unconditional love?
JESUS wants possession of us, our whole hearts, minds and souls, but only if we are humble enough to admit we need HIM to wash our feet too!
Asking HIM to do this is asking HIM to wash away our sins, every single one, because we know we cannot do it ourselves, nor can we save ourselves by any special work or position of power or status in life. All our awards, diplomas and special titles mean nothing before the throne of the KING of KINGS.
ISAIAH 64: 6 “WE ARE ALL INFECTED AND IMPURE WITH SIN. WHEN WE DISPLAY OUR RIGHTEOUS DEEDS, THEY ARE NOTHING BUT FILTHY RAGS.”
Are we more interested in the position in our lives or the possession of our very souls held in GOD’S capable hands?
HE wants possession of our hearts…….but only those hearts submitted to HIM. Our egos need to go and yes, submission is hard. HIS will……not ours.
Today let’s search our inward being and see…….because JESUS sees us and HE wants us with HIM. HE wants full possession of our heart and soul. Search HIS word today and see…….
1 KINGS 8: 57-58 “…….THAT HE MAY NOT LEAVE US OR FORSAKE US; THAT HE MAY INCLINE OUR HEARTS TO HIM, TO WALK IN ALL HIS WAYS AND TO KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS, HIS STATUTES, AND HIS RULES, WHICH HE COMMANDED OUR FATHERS.”

Beautiful 🙏

oooo – Eph 2.7 goes so well with Eph 3.20, 21 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
Oh, amen, Maxine! I do love to praise God with you!

Maxine, when I read your first paragraph, what I was thinking you were referring to is “position” meaning “I’m saved, done deal, going to heaven, no matter how I live.” Many people today are seeking to be free of the punishment of sin and they want the promise of heaven when they die, but they don’t want God to possess their lives. They don’t want to give him ownership over their lives. They want to still be in control. They still want to be able to live how they want. They want the “position” of “being saved,” but they don’t want the “submission” to Christ and to his cross. They want the forgiveness of sins, but they don’t want to die to their sins. So, it is like wanting the resurrection without the cross.

YOU said it so very well…….you must “see” the CROSS to understand the sinner you are yes? And, it is all HIS grace upon grace for us.

I have done a couple of hand washings and foot washings! I loved doing it rather than having it done for me. Oh what a state of humility you need in either case, but I did imagine JESUS doing it…….the GOD of our universe, the King of Kings…….imagine that!

I really struggled with the idea of it, as I don’t touch people’s feet. But, the Lord gave me what I needed to do it, and he took over, and it was awesome! Done in the power of the Spirit makes all the difference. Yes, and it does take humility, too. And, Jesus is our example, for sure. Thank you, Maxine, for sharing that with me.

Yes it is a humbling of spirit that we need to do something for JESUS, especially when you can say outright – no not my thing!!

Yes!! In the flesh, NO WAY! In the Spirit? Absolutely! I can do all things (within his will) in and through him who strengthens me.
